On Pestering Your Loved Ones…
June 15th, 2009

I would be sitting at the end of the couch watching TV with my folks. Mom would be folding clothes. When she got up to do something, turning her attention away for only a moment, Dad would throw socks at me. If Mom actually left the room, a great sock war would ensue. The whole room could be laid waste in seconds. The end of the battle was marked by the loud whisper, “SHH! HERE SHE COMES.” The funniest part of this is the reason she left the room was usually because Dad asked her for something like a cup of coffee. She would come back ranting about us messing up the room and her laundry, while laughing and handing Dad his coffee.
Pestering your loved ones is a completely unnecessary interaction as far as serious survival is concerned. That means when it happens it is solely for the purpose of random togetherness. It is me saying, “I love you and want to play with you.”
But you do have to remember to pick up the socks.

This, my friend, is a deeply, pleasantly philosophical post.
“I love you and I want to play with you.” …if the world contained more of this sentiment, it would be a better place.
Bravo!
