Welcome to 2010

Marketing has gone crazy. I know this comes as a shock to no one. But something that did shock me was the display of new calenders at my local bookstore/coffee shop. I understand that people are getting busier and busier, filling up their time to the last second. I recognize that in today’s world of high speed access and instant credit that it is considered a sin to be bored. But are we really so obsessed with planning our entire future that the planners need to go on sale before we are even six months away? Don’t THOSE people already have a five or ten year journal/planner? Wouldn’t they just make one on their phone during the morning commute, or while jogging or something?
Incidently, the 18 month calenders that came out last June are still good until June of 2010, but they are still on the discount rack. They were originally marked $18.95, but now they are priced at $3. Seems to me that for that kind of savings it wouldn’t hurt to wait until June to buy my calendars from now on anyway. Let me just set a reminder for that on my phone.

Plan, plan, plan. You are right we have gone planner crazy. What happened to spontaneity? Now, I put events in my cell phone and once a month I transfer to a written planner. How silly is that!
