On Riding Out the Storm…
April 30th, 2009
Yesterday, all of my loved ones were concerned that I would ride my bike to work in the rain. I had plenty of offers for alternatives. I even got in the wife’s car to take it instead. The first thing I noticed was that it only had an 1/8th of a tank of gas. That won’t get me to work and back, but I was willing to stop and fill it up. I pulled out into the road and just as I started out, I encountered foot and half deep water. I’m not driving through that. I turned around to go the other way up the street when I ran into two feet of water. As I began backing up to find another way, I noticed a young man trying to push his stalled car out of a busy intersection. Either other cars are going to hit him, or they are going to have to stop in the flood and risk being stalled out as well. In order to live up to the love of my good woman, I had to stop and help. I parked the car and stepped into water that flooded over the tops of my boots. We pushed his car out of traffic. A nice couple with a pick-up and a chain stopped and pulled him the rest of the way into a parking lot. After I gave him a ride home, I went home to change into dry clothes and boots before heading out to work. Then I realized that I was going to be wet all day long, so there was no real point. I put some dry boots and socks into a garbage bag, strapped ‘em on the bike, and away I went.

Good grief! My worries were so much simpler when you were still crawling. Didn’t have to worry about motorcycles..rain..rifles…etc. O the wows of a mother.
What a prince of a guy!
I was going to say your momma would be proud, but then I read the comment above. Maybe not. Nevermind.
